PT Bank Syariah Mandiri obtained a foreign exchange license on March 18, 2002. BSM has since served the various levels of society in meeting the needs for foreign currencies/foreign exchange under DSN fatwa No 28/DSN-MUI/III/2002. As a sharia bank that has grown quite rapidly and become the largest sharia bank, BSM is unwilling to miss the opportunity for serving and developing foreign exchange transactions. PT Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM) serves the exchange of foreign currencies in the form of bank notes (physical currencies) and general foreign exchange (devu). Any question about the exchangeable foreign currencies can be addressed directly to all the BSM branches. The Sharia Sale and Purchase Transaction terms are provided by DSN Fatwa No. 28/DSN-MUI/III/2002

  1. Not for speculation
  2. There is a need for bank customer transactions, or just in case
  3. If an exchange transaction is made for the currency of sorts, the value must be the same and in cash.

Under DSN fatwa No. 28/DSN-MUI/III/2002, the foreign exchange (forex) transactions for general foreign exchange allowed are:

  1. Today (Tod)
A foreign exchange buying or selling transaction with delivery on the same date.
  2. Tomorrow (Tom)
A foreign exchange buying or selling transaction with delivery in one business day after the transaction date.
  3. Spot
A foreign exchange buying or selling transaction with delivery in two business days after the transaction date.

For now, the BSM branches can serve the exchange with today's currency (valuta today).
